A recent survey done by Accenture reveals interesting findings about the downloading trends of youth worldwide:
- Youths in India and the Netherlands maintain the post of the most active downloaders of open source technologies, at 61 percent and 77 percent, respectively.
- Social profiling is most commonly done in China and India. Here more than 75% of the people use social networks more than half of the time when they want to learn more about their peers or superiors. Globally this number is 25%.
- 30% of chat-room users download free smileys instead of using simple ASCII characters.
- Only 6 percent of users in their 20s expect to use only corporate applications at work.
- Self-display is rampant on Web powered social networks in some countries, as is the use of such networks to research employers, prospective clients, and colleagues.
- The most open and casual behavior when writing about themselves and friends online is found in China, Japan, and Brazil. By contrast, users in India, Canada, and France are far less open online.
- 72% of Indian youth said that the state-of-art technology is an important when considering a future employer.
- 68% of Japanese youth thinks free smileys are much cuter than the text based emoticons.
